Radar Altimeter
A radar altimeter is a device that measures the height of an aircraft above the terrain or the water immediately below it. It does this by sending out a radio signal towards the ground and measuring the time it takes for the signal to bounce back. The radar altimeter is an important instrument for pilots during takeoff and landing, as it provides them with accurate information about their height above the ground. This information is particularly useful when visibility is poor, such as during foggy or cloudy conditions.
