Crabbing
Crabbing is a technique used by pilots during crosswind landings where the aircraft is pointed into the wind, causing it to move sideways down the runway while maintaining its ground track. This is achieved by applying opposite rudder to the direction of the crosswind, while using ailerons to maintain the aircraft's wings level. The purpose of crabbing is to keep the aircraft's ground track aligned with the runway centerline, while preventing it from drifting off course due to the crosswind. Just before touchdown, the pilot will use the rudder to align the aircraft with the runway, a maneuver known as 'kicking out the crab'.
