Anti-icing
Anti-icing is the process of preventing the formation of ice on an aircraft or its components, such as wings, engines, and propellers. This is achieved by applying a special fluid called anti-icing fluid, which contains a mixture of glycol and water, to the aircraft surfaces. The fluid lowers the freezing point of water and prevents ice from forming. Anti-icing is crucial for safe flight operations, as ice buildup on an aircraft can cause loss of lift, increased drag, and reduced engine performance. It is particularly important during takeoff and landing, when the aircraft is flying at low altitudes and is more susceptible to icing. Anti-icing is a standard procedure in commercial aviation and is regulated by aviation authorities.
